Passive solar sun room addition. 12’ deep x 24’ long with 8’ ceiling. 7 south facing windows and a roof overhang with 11-- 55 gal metal drums filled with water in front of the windows. The water drums stabalise the temperature swings throught the day. The lowest recorded temperature has been 63 deg. And we have shut off our thermostats in the living, dining rooms and kitchen. Suplemental heat is provided with a pellet sove in the living room.
Solar water heating system manufactured by Radco. 1—4’x10’ flat plate collector on the garage roof coupled to an 8 gal drain back module, provides 130 gals of solar heated water. Estimated solar performace at 90%.
Skystream 3.7 wind generator system mounted on a 45’ monopole. Since installation system has produce a max of 12 kWh/day in a very low wind speed season. Estimates for the real windy season could be as high as 600 kWh/month which will provide 150% of monthly electrical usage.
4200 gals of rain catchment cisterns to water the food garden and xeriscaped landscaping.
